Paragraph Counter

The Paragraph Counter reports how many paragraphs your text contains, alongside the total word count and the average words per paragraph. A paragraph is counted wherever a blank line separates one block of text from the next — the same convention used by Markdown, most CMS editors, and plain-text email.

That definition matters: a single line break (Shift+Enter) does not start a new paragraph, but an empty line between blocks does. If your count looks lower than expected, check whether your paragraphs are actually separated by blank lines.

Everything is calculated in your browser as you type; nothing is sent to a server.

Readers on the web scan before they read. A 1,000-word article split into 5 paragraphs presents five intimidating walls of text; the same article in 15 paragraphs invites scrolling. The average words-per-paragraph figure tells you which of those two articles you've written — for online content, 40–80 words per paragraph is a comfortable range.

Writers use the count to meet structural requirements, too. A '5-paragraph essay' assignment, a cover letter that should stay at 3–4 paragraphs, or a press release template with a fixed structure can all be verified in one paste.

Editors reviewing guest submissions can also spot problems fast: 900 words in 3 paragraphs signals a draft that needs restructuring before it needs line editing.
